Email from Rick Yeo to Sir Nick Harvey MP concerning parking proposals for Braunton
From: Richard Yeo
Sent: 30 April 2014
Subject: Proposed parking restrictions in Braunton
Dear Sir Nick and Anthony,
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Richard (Rick) Yeo, I am a Braunton resident of 20 or so years and have family ties to the village going back to the year dot. I am a local Heating Engineer and am proud to serve the village residents and support the local business.
I am becoming deeply concerned with the County Council proposed traffic restrictions that have been outlined for the village. My initial concern is that which has been proposed for the Lower Park Road area, with this on street parking option being removed there will be a number of residents without a parking option. Having previously owned a house in Heanton Street I know the problems we all had trying to find a parking space. It must be borne in mind that there are a great deal of old terraced cottages within the village centre none of which have parking spaces. It must also be said that there are an increasing number of holiday homes within the village which, in season, greatly increase the volume of cars looking for a space.
My second concern is that we live on the Brittons which is a small bungalow estate on a private road. With the extra cars looking for spaces I am worried that people will start parking on this road causing problems for these residents which have to pay for the up keep of this road possibly leading to conflict!
There are other concerns with other areas of the proposed plan but I could go on all night. Im not sure of the reasons for these proposals, road safety; or revenue raising however I feel that no concern is being given to those whom it will affect the greatest, the local residents.
I hope my ramblings are clear? Are you able to shed any light on this?
Yours sincerely Rick Yeo

Save Braunton Library Campaign! What to read and where…
The Consultation is now underway which will affect the future of Braunton Library.
1. Consultation introduction
You can read the introduction to the Consultation here.
2. The proposals
The specific proposals are set out here. Click on each proposal for the details. The most significant as far as Braunton is concerned is proposal which you can read here.
3. How can we save our library?
The consultation closes on 17th July (although note that paper responses need to be in by 10th July) and it’s essential that as many people as possible respond. You can fill in the online questionnaire here. But this isn’t merely an exercise in voting for the library to stay open. The consultation is actively looking for suggestions as to how the community might become involved in the running of the library. They give examples of other libraries which have been saved and they provide good inspiration for thinking of ideas for Braunton. You can read those examples here. These range from Porlock Library which has harnessed volunteers and financial support from the Parish Council to Gamlingay Eco Hub which has provided another way of harnessing local community support and spirit.

New Braunton parking restrictions – you have until 16 May to object!
As you can see from the proposal below (and also here), Devon County Council are proposing to make significant changes to parking in particular areas of Braunton, in particular on specified lengths of Barton Lane, Burrows Park, Chaloners Road, Church Street, Exeter Road, Gubbins Lane, Lower Park Road, Palmers Close, Second Field Lane, South View, Station Close and Station Road. If this affects you or you have a view on it, you can see the proposed draft Order here. Also, the main page is here and the page to register any objection is here. You might also consider lobbying the County Councillor for Braunton Rural who is Caroline Chugg. Her details are here.
