UPDATE ON ORIGINAL POST WHICH IS BELOW:
I have been speaking to Nigel Reed at Western Power Distribution today and he has assured me of two things:
1. That there will be systems in place for emergency vehicles (specifically, ambulance and fire brigade).
2. That funding will be made available to pay for affected residents to pay for leaving their cars in the Caen Street car park. I think the details of this still need to be confirmed and it may possibly be on a first come first served basis if space is limited.

For what it’s worth, when I first spoke to Nigel the parking funding was already being sorted out. However, the emergency services access was not and this is something that he has managed to get agreed this afternoon in direct response both to my request and my mention of what others have been saying on Facebook. This is extremely important since it could potentially mean saving an extra half an hour or more for an ambulance which could make all the difference in an emergency.

I do realise that not having any other access will be a big inconvenience but having listened to the logistical difficulties which are involved, I think Western Power have done a really good job in showing some flexibility in what is inevitably a difficult job.The point is that I think this is probably as much as they’re able to give on this issue and I’m relieved in particular over the emergency access.

ORIGINAL POST
Western Power Distribution have told residents that they are to close the junction of Northdown Road with Abbotts Hill from 9am on 16 February until 4.30pm on 23 February meaning that the houses above there such as Acland Park will be blocked off for access and will need to take lengthy diversions via the backroads if they are to get out. The number to call if you have a complaint about this is 01271 347751. Clearly if works need to be done they need to be done. But perhaps it might be possible for there to be specific times when the road could be opened to residents for access?
